Ordnance Survey Victorian Name Books for Scotland – now online!

scotplacesThe BBC News website reports that almost 1,700 Ordnance Survey name books have been added to theScotlandsPlaces website, where they can be searched by the public.

The books include histories, gazetteers, directories, dictionaries and art work relating to features that appeared on OS maps between 1840 and 1878.

ScotlandsPlaces is a website that allows users to search across different national historical databases using geographic locations.
